& Juliet at Shaftesbury Theatre: Backstage at pop musical with West End star Miriam-Teak Lee

Theatre’s most tragic love story turns out to be not so tragic after all, as Juliet gets a new lease of life.

& Juliet, a brand new musical based on the tunes of songwriter extraordinaire Max Martin, opens this week. With the help of the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, Juliet decides to keep living her life and jets off to Paris with her friends.

The Evening Standard went behind the scenes to find out what goes on backstage at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

The show’s star Miriam-Teak Lee gave us a tour on the other side of the curtain, from her pink dressing room to the quick change area, offering some secrets about the costumes.

Lee is joined by Oliver Tompsett as Shakespeare, Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway and Jordan Luke Gage as Romeo. Arun Blair-Mangat, Melanie La Barrie, David Bedella and Tim Mahendran are also in the core cast.

Luke Sheppard directs, with a book by David West Read, choreography by Jennifer Weber, set design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Paloma Young, sound by Gareth Owen, lighting by Howard Hudson and musical arrangements by Bill Sherman and Dominic Fallacaro.

& Juliet opens on Wednesday November 20 is booking until March 2020 at Shaftesbury Theatre
