With the release of Marvel’s much-anticipated sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron mere weeks away, it would have been safe to assume that we’d be aware of the full cast list for the film by now.
But yesterday threw a curveball with the news that Julie Delpy would be joining the cast. It was originally revealed in an announcement of cast members attending the premiere with Delpy’s name added in. She’s not the only last-minute addition with Linda Cardellini’s name also popping up.
Disney has confirmed that their names were not mistakenly added but has provided no further details.
It would be the first blockbuster for Delpy, best known for her roles in Before Sunset, Before Sunrise and Before Midnight, but would make her yet another acclaimed French actress to have joined the cast of a big-budget action film. Last year saw Juliette Binoche (almost) battle Godzilla and last month brought news that Charlotte Gainsbourg would be up against an alien foe in Independence Day 2.
Cardellini, best known for roles in ER and Freaks and Geeks, is currently starring in the Netflix thriller Bloodline, and is no stranger to sequels after a role in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
Rumours are circulating about what characters the pair might play, with some suggesting that either could be playing Captain Marvel but most agreeing that they will probably be in small supporting roles. The sequel, budgeted at an estimated $250m, reunites the cast from the first film with other new members to include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Andy Serkis and James Spader.
