Julianna Pena provided one of the greatest UFC upsets of all-time at by submitting Amanda Nunes in the co-main event of UFC 269 to win the women's bantamweight title.
Pena - who had only fought twice in two years - was dropped by a calf kick from Nunes in the first strike of the fight as she struggled to land anything significant in the opening round.
The American was defending submission attempts from Nunes whilst seeking her own from the bottom position as the first round came to a close.
Pena started to find her rhythm on the feet in the second round and was pumping out her jab to get the attention of the hard-hitting Nunes.
The two started to go back and forth in the centre of the octagon each landing significant blows, but it was the underdog Pena who was getting the better of the exchanges.
Nunes was visibly hurt and was backing up as Pena continued to land on the feet as the two fighters progressed into a grappling exchange.
Pena then took the back of Nunes and managed to sink in a rear-naked choke to force a tap from the Brazilian and win the 135-pound title.
"I told you don't ever doubt me again. Willpower, strength and determination it will take you places," she said after the fight.
"I definitely expected a win and I'm just so grateful, the world is my oyster. You have the ability to do anything you want in life and I just proved that in this fight.
Nunes was gracious in defeat, stating: "Congratulations to Julianna, she's a warrior. Thank you for all the cheer and I'll see you all here again."
