Julian Nagelsmann insists RB Leipzig aren’t out of their Champions League bout with Liverpool.
And he believes that the Bundesliga side weren’t two goals worse than Jurgen Klopp’s men in Tuesday night’s first leg.
Liverpool claimed a 2-0 victory over RBL in the first leg in Hungary.
Quick-fire second half goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane put the 2019 winners in command of the tie, against last year’s semi-finalists.
But Nagelsmann felt the final scoreline was not an accurate reflection of how well his side played against the Reds.
“When you win, you're always right, but we earned a lot of respect in the 90 minutes," the Leipzig boss insisted.
"We were definitely not worse and certainly not two goals worse.
“The big difference was they scored with their two chances, we had three big chances and weren’t clinical enough.
“For the two big mistakes we committed we were punished, and at such a high level that’s normal."
For Liverpool it was the perfect tonic for their Premier League troubles.
Jurgen Klopp remarked: "I was really pleased with the performance and it led to a deserved win.
"It was a game that we did not expect big advantages because of the mentality of both teams but I thought we were better for most of the night.
"Overall I can say that, the whole package, I'm very pleased with the performance. Whatever they tried, we had an answer. They had chances, but that's normal.
"The majority of the time, we had control of the game which was very important, and that doesn't happen a lot against Leipzig."
