Julian Nagelsmann reveals what has changed for Timo Werner at Chelsea after RB Leipzig transfer

Julian Nagelsmann says that Timo Werner has found it tough to adjust to Chelsea after being the "undisputed star striker" at RB Leipzig.

The 24-year-old has had a difficult first year since completing his move to Stamford Bridge, scoring just four goals in his 22 Premier League appearances.

That comes after 28 goals in the Bundesliga for Leipzig in the 2019/20 season as Leipzig finished third in the table behind Borussia Dortmund and winner Bayern Munich.

Leipzig have not allowed Werner's exit to impact them too much, as they currently sit second in the table behind leaders Bayern once again.

Nagelsmann says that the striker was the main man in Leipzig and was trusted even when he was not at his best.

However, at Chelsea he is one of a number of key players, and still has to work on "certain things" to make a bigger impact.

"Timo was the undisputed star striker in Leipzig for a long time, with many goals and a lot of influence on the development of the club," Nagelsmann told Kicker.

"He always played there, even when he made a meter less in training. At Chelsea he is one of many stars and has to work on certain things."

Werner will be hoping for better things when Chelsea are in action against Newcastle and Southampton this week, before the return of the Champions League with a tie against Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.

A win against Newcastle will put Chelsea back into the top four of the Premier League at the expense of Liverpool.
