Julian Nagelsmann makes Timo Werner transfer admission as Chelsea and Liverpool eye £53m move

Timo Werner was in the goals again on Monday night as RB Leipzig beat Koln 4-2.

Werner bagged Leipzig's third on the night to push them back into third place in the Bundesliga table with five games to play.

The German frontman has been in impressive form this season, scoring 31 goals in 40 appearances for the German side as they've secured new fans with a fine run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

But where does his future lie?

The Premier League is calling, with both Chelsea and Liverpool heavily linked with a move this summer.

Alan Smith answers Chelsea questions

Frank Lampard is keen to bolster his attacking options, with a heavy weight on Tammy Abraham's shoulders so far this campaign.

The Blues have been linked with a number of other options, but Werner could be an ideal signing, if Roman Abramovich were to sanction a £53million move - something that Liverpool have been reportedly reluctant to do.

Werner is rumoured to prefer a switch to Merseyside, but Chelsea could have the money to change his mind.

And after the win over Koln, Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann delivered an update on Werner's future that will interest Chelsea fans, suggesting there was not much more he could do to convince him to stay.

He said: "There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me.

"I show him that — he gets many chances to develop himself. I don’t know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day.

"A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn’t feel that, it wouldn’t do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here."
