Julian Nagelsmann instructs Thomas Tuchel on how to fix Timo Werner problem

Julian Nagelsmann reckons Timo Werner will come good for Chelsea and they just need to be patient with his former player.

The German forward has suffered a disappointing debut season in the Premier League following his switch from RB Leipzig.

His return of 12 goals in 50 appearances is well below his usual strike rate after he scored 34 goals in 46 games in the Bundesliga last term under Nagelsmann.

But the German boss, who will take charge of Bayern Munich in the summer, reckons Werner is just going through one of those difficult periods and Tuchel will be able to get the best out of him if he's given time.

Nagelsmann says Werner is a notoriously streaky player in front of goal and when it clicks for him, the floodgates will open.

He told the Telegraph : "Thomas [Tuchel] is a great coach and has shown in the past that he can make players better.

"Timo is a player that performs best when he is in his comfort zone, and I am still sure he will fit well in the Chelsea squad.

"Every striker goes through these periods once in a while. There have been times when Timo did not score in Leipzig as well.

"It is just a phase you have to get through.

"From a distance I would say it was a season with ups and downs.

"He started off well, scoring some goals at the beginning of the season, but he also had some tough times throughout this special campaign with an extremely tight schedule."
