Julian Nagelsmann has Timo Werner warning for Chelsea and tells rival clubs how to stop him

Timo Werner is Chelsea's big summer signing.

That is, at least, until Marina Granovskaia and Frank Lampard splash even more of Roman Abramovich's cash.

Kai Havertz is likely to be the big marquee signing, costing around £90million, but the Blues have yet to agree a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the young forward's services.

So, for now, it is another young German forward who is the big-name signing, with Werner expected to lead the line for Chelsea when the season begins in earnest on September 12.

Werner has quite the pedigree with 34 goals in 45 games for Leipzig this season prior to leaving for Stamford Bridge. that was added to the 19 he scored in 35 games in 2018/19 and the 21 goals in 45 games of 2017/18.

The 24-year-old passed up the chance to finish his Champions League campaign with RB Leipzig, choosing instead to join up with his new Chelsea team-mates and get in some good training ahead of his first season in the Premier League.

And, with Leipzig beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the quarter-finals on Thursday night, to reach the last four, it may be something he lives to regret if the Germans go all the way.

After the game, Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann had a warning for Chelsea over Werner's play, and told Premier League rivals how they could nullify his threat.

When asked about beating the Spanish giants having lost Werner, Nagelsmann said: "The opponents are probably not the best for Timo Werner because there's not a lot of space behind the defensive line and we decided to play with three offensive midfielders to create spaces between the lines and they did it very well."

That suggests Nagelsmann might not have even picked Werner had he been available, and also indicated to the rest of the Premier League the tactics they should employ against a Werner-led Chelsea front-line.
