Julian Nagelsmann and Thierry Henry could form PSG management team as 'advanced talks' held

Julian Nagelsmann is set to become the new Paris Saint-Germain boss - with former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry potentially joining him as his assistant manager.

Nagelsmann, 35, has been out of work since being sacked by Bayern Munich in March and was heavily linked with the Chelsea job before Mauricio Pochettino was appointed last month. The German was also tipped to make the switch to Tottenham, but Spurs confirmed on May 12 that he wasn't in contention for the role.

Now, according to L'Equipe, Nagelsmann is in 'advanced talks' to replace Christophe Galtier at PSG this summer. Galtier is not expected to continue next season and Nagelsmann is the main name in the frame, having won the Bundesliga title with Bayern last season, winning 60 of his 84 matches in charge at the Allianz Arena.

As part of his appointment, Henry could join him as his assistant manager - a matter of months since his departure from Belgium's national set-up alongside Roberto Martinez. However, after a spell out of the coaching scene, Henry might now be in-line to team up with Nagelsmann in the French capital.

Nagelsmann would become PSG's 32nd ever manager and their fourth in three years following the dismissals of Thomas Tuchel and Pochettino, and the anticipated departure of Galtier. The latter took over last summer and managed to win Ligue 1 for the ninth time in 10 seasons, but, ultimately failed in the Champions League.

PSG are hoping Nagelsmann can help them win Europe's elite club competition for the first time, having crashed out in the last-16 to reigning champions Real Madrid last season. The closest they have gotten was under Tuchel back in 2020 when they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich.

Although Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos are set to leave PSG this summer, Nagelsmann will still have a plethora of quality at his disposal. Kylian Mbappe confirmed last month that he will stay at the French side next season, while Neymar could also remain at the Parc des Princes despite being linked with a move to Newcastle.

In midfield, Marco Asenjo is expected to become PSG's first summer signing and bolster their options following his exit from Real Madrid, while Marco Verratti, Renato Sanches, Vitinha and Carlos Soler are all expected to stay. Warren Zaine-Emery, 16, is also set to join-up with the first-team after breaking through under Galtier.

As for the defensive department, Nagelsmann may need to replace the outgoing Ramos. Marquinhos and the ex-Spain international formed a solid partnership last season but the ex-Hoffenheim boss could dip into the transfer market for a new central defender. Presnel Kimpembe may slot back into the XI, meanwhile, with Achraf Hakimi and Juan Bernat as the full-backs, and Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal.
