Julian Edelman says Patriots-Bengals taping controversy is a ‘joke’

Count New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman as a guy who isn’t placing much stock on the so-called Spygate 2.0 investigation stemming from a situation involving the Cincinnati Bengals.

Though the Bengals-Patriots game is firmly in the past after a victory for the latter, Edelman and the Bill Belichick-led Patriots will continue to get questions about the investigation.

Here’s the latest take from Edelman, who appeared on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” (h/t the Boston Herald‘s Andrew Callahan):

“Yeah, that’s pretty much a joke. We haven’t even thought about it, honestly. We’ve been thinking about other things. It’s funny, but it is what it is. I don’t know, it’s ridiculous. My focus is on the Buffalo Bills.”

Footage of the Patriots filming the Bengals sideline released before the two teams played in Week 15. New England hasn’t changed its stance on the matter, the incident apparently being a case of a media crew breaking rules while shooting an internal documentary. The Bengals are reportedly furious and want the Patriots punished.

Based on Edelman’s comments, Patriots players aren’t sweating it too much. There hasn’t been much of an indication as to how long the NFL’s investigation could take.
