Julian Edelman’s suspension strained his relationship with his dad

New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman and his father didn’t agree about how to handle his suspension, which the NFL doled out for Edelman’s violation of the substance-abuse policy. They had a “different stance,” Edelman said during the Showtime documentary “100 percent,” which documented the receiver’s comeback year from an ACL injury.

“Frank was very upset,” Edelman’s mother, Angie, said in the documentary, via Boston.com. “Jules didn’t want his dad a part of this process. He was handling it with his attorneys, and my husband doesn’t understand that sometimes.”

They didn’t speak for 81 days, according to the documentary.

“Me and my dad talk every day,” Edelman said. “And after that, we didn’t talk for awhile.”

Edelman returned from his ACL injury and his suspension to have one of the best year’s of his career on a per-game basis, with 74 receptions for 850 yards and six touchdowns. Edelman also recorded 10 receptions for 141 yards in the Patriots’ win over the Los Angles Rams in Super Bowl LIII and won the game’s MVP award.
