Julian Edelman pens thoughtful letter to educate Meyers Leonard after anti-Semitic slur

New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman made a thoughtful effort to reach out to Miami Heat center Meyers Leonard after he used an anti-Semitic slur while playing video games on a live stream this week. Leonard apologized for his words.

Edelman, who took a diplomatic approach after DeSean Jackson posted anti-Semitic quotes on his Instagram account, reached out to Leonard in an effort to educate him.

“I get the sense that you didn’t use that word out of hate, more out of ignorance,” Edelman wrote Wednesday. “Most likely, you weren’t trying to hurt anyone or even profile Jews in your comment. … I’m down in Miami fairly often. Let’s do a Shabbat dinner with some friends. I’ll show you a fun time.”

Edelman’s patience is impressive. His efforts to use education to battle ignorance deserve praise.
