Julian Edelman might have revealed the Patriots’ starting QB with a funny Twitter photo

The New England Patriots have begun to favor Cam Newton as their starting quarterback, though it hasn’t been abundantly clear if he’ll win the job, with the team splitting reps fairly evenly between him, Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham. The assumption has always been that Newton would pull away. But the Patriots seem to be complicating that assumption — perhaps on purpose.

Receiver Julian Edelman posted a photo on Twitter that teased a result for the Patriots’ quarterback battle. It showed Edelman photoshopped as Batman, with Newton appearing as Superman.

Edelman included the following caption: “The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming…”

The implication is that Edelman and Newton are going to help the Patriots in their comeback from the departures of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. And if Newton is Superman in Edelman’s spoof, he’s almost definitely not going to be a superhero from the bench. He’s going to be the starter.
