Julian Edelman is jokingly recruiting Zion Williamson to replace Gronk

Zion Williamson is 6-foot-7, 285 pounds and has immeasurably ridiculous athleticism. He has the size, strength, speed and overall athleticism that would be perfect for an NFL tight end.

Despite Julian Edelman’s best efforts, though, we’ll never get to see how Williamson would fare in a competitive football game.

With longtime Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski announcing his retirement, New England will be looking for a replacement. Obviously, it would be nice to have an athletic freak and ultra-famous superstar like Williamson step right in from one wildly successful and despised program to another. It would make so much sense if not for the fact that Williamson will be the top pick in the NBA draft this summer.

Still, Edelman gave the cause a shot and tweeted a Photoshopped pic of Williamson getting drafted by the Patriots.

Let the recruitment begin.

As intrigued as I would be by the prospect of Zion playing in the NFL, that’s never going to happen. At the very least, it would be cool to get a Sport Science-type experiment that puts his football skills on display. Even that would be asking too much. We’ll have to live with that one grainy video of Williamson throwing a football a million yards.

But hey, there’s no shame in trying, Julian. Shoot that shot.
