Julian Alvarez makes Erling Haaland admission as Man City striker sends message to teammate

World Cup winner Julian Alvarez has paid tribute to the role Erling Haaland has played in helping him to bed into life at Manchester City.

The duo pulled up at the Etihad for the first time during the summer, albeit Alvarez had been signed in the previous January and kept on loan by River Plate for the rest of the last campaign. Both have already had seasons to remember.

Haaland has scored 27 goals in 24 outings, with 21 of them coming in 17 Premier League matches. Alvarez has netted eight goals in his 23 appearances, of which only 10 have been starts.

He has already got his hands on a trophy this campaign, lifting football’s biggest prize as Argentina went all the way at the Qatar World Cup last month, during which he scored four times.

It has been a whirlwind six months for the attacker, but Alvarez has been keen to note the role Haaland has played in his recent successes. “I always say that beyond being a great player he’s [Haaland] a great person who always tries to help me,” Alvarez told club media.

“As a player he’s been showing how good he is for a while now with all of the goals he’s scored, not just here at Manchester City but also his former clubs.

“What surprised me about him was his mentality, he wants more and more every day, and also for his height he’s so strong, quick, intelligent and decisive in front of goal.

“He’s decisive for the team so I try to learn from him every day and to see what I can take from him, playing with the best always helps you.

“I’m yet to play alongside him so I’m trying to prepare myself so that I can play as a lone striker or with him, whatever it may be, and just give my all.”
