Julia Roberts 'earned $750,000 a day to appear in Mother's Day'

Julia Roberts reportedly earned $750,000 (£517,870) a day for her latest film, Mothers Day

The actress was paid a staggering $3million (£2,067,226.81) for the four-day shoot, reports Variety.

While this sum may come as a shock, it’s not really that surprising considering some of Robert’s previous paycheques. For her role in Valentine’s Day, directed by Garry Marshall, who also directed Pretty Woman and Mother’s Day, she received $3million for a six-minute appearance. At the height of her career in the 2000s she received $20million for her lead role in Erin Brockovich, becaming the first actress to command that much for a movie.

Other actresses and actors to join the “$20million club”, as it is dubbed by the Hollywood Reporter, include Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington.

Jennifer Lawrence is currently the highest paid actress in Hollywood having earned $52 million (£35,858,854) between June 2014 and June 2015.

However, neither Roberts’ nor Lawrence’s salary compares to that of the highest paid actor, Robert Downey Jnr’s. He earned $80million between June 2014 and June 2015 due to his role as Iron Man in the Avengers series.

On the subject of wealth inequality, it’s worth noting the average salary in the UK for 2015 was £27,456 - meaning you would have to work for 75 years to make what Roberts made in four days.
