Julia Garner on The Wolf Man: Wanted the audience to experience the seven stages of grief in one night

The Wolf Man, an extraordinary horror-fantasy film directed by filmmaker Leigh Whannell is set to hit theatres on Friday, January 17th. The story delves into a family’s desperate fight for survival after an attack by a savage animal.

Julia Garner, known for her Emmy-winning performances, shared her thoughts on what drew her to the emotionally complex script. "It’s about connection and grief," she said, describing the film’s layered exploration of love and loss. Garner added, "When somebody’s in front of you and they’re slowly disappearing, it’s not a sudden death, but a slow process. Early on, Leigh [Whannell] discussed wanting to connect and then having that person not be there anymore."

Garner revealed her approach to portraying the emotional depth of her character: "When we started prepping, I told Leigh that I wanted it to feel that the audience was going through the seven stages of grief in one night. When Blake is going through the physical stages, Charlotte is going through the mental ones."

The plot follows the Blake family—Blake, Charlotte, and their young daughter Ginger—who retreat to a remote property for a peaceful getaway. However, their escape turns into a nightmare when they are attacked by a mysterious creature. Trapped in a farmhouse, the family battles both the beast outside and a growing terror within. As the night progresses, Blake undergoes a horrifying transformation, leaving Charlotte and Ginger to face unimaginable peril.

The highly anticipated The Wolf Man boasts an impressive cast, including Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott, Emmy winner Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaeger. The film promises to blend visceral horror with poignant storytelling, delivering a cinematic experience that resonates on both emotional and visual levels. Don’t miss this gripping tale of love, loss, and survival, coming to IMAX theatres on January 17th, 2025.
