Jules Kounde's transfer fear revealed as Chelsea reluctant to meet £68m release clause

Chelsea are looking to complete their second transfer this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to sure up his back line.

The Blues completed the signing of Marcus Bettinelli earlier in the week and now want to carry the momentum on for the remainder of the month.

Jules Kounde is someone that has been touted as a big target for Tuchel, despite the Chelsea boss having an array of centre-backs to choose from.

Kounde, who represented France at Euro 2020 recently, reportedly has a £68million release clause in his existing contract with Sevilla, but the west London club are said to be reluctant to pay that fee.

Kurt Zouma is apparently liked by the Seville-based club, so a player-plus-cash option has been mentioned, but West Ham United's ongoing pursuit of the Chelsea defender has made that a tad more complicated because of his desire to stay in the Premier League.

Now, according to Spanish news outlet Diario de Sevilla, via the Express, Kounde is becoming increasingly worried about the situation, with the two clubs' valuation of the defender said to be well apart.

The 22-year-old is 'starting to feel uneasy' about the possibility of not getting a big-money move to Stamford Bridge this summer, if the two clubs cannot reach an agreement over the fee.

Recent reports have suggested that Sevilla could already be planning for life without Kounde, with claims they are in talks with Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez.

Sanchez's agenrt, Nestor Villarreal, told Caracol Radio: “They are just rumours.

“Yes, I have spoken to the people of Sevilla, but at the moment, they have a full squad.

“If a transfer happens on their part, those rumours could be true, but concretely there is nothing, only talks.”
