JuJu Smith-Schuster seems to have teased his intentions in free agency

JuJu Smith-Schuster doesn’t seem optimistic that he’ll be returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers for 2021.

Sports Illustrated host Kaitlin O’Toole posted a poll about Smith-Schuster on her Instagram page. The poll asked whether JuJu would stay in Pittsburgh. The potential answers were, “1) I HOPE SO” and “2) That’s a negative.” And I bet you can guess which one Smith-Schuster picked. He was one of the first voters on the poll, and he selected, “That’s a negative.”

Smith-Schuster departure wouldn’t be a huge surprise. The Steelers are one of the NFL’s best teams at drafting and developing talent, and the latest two wideouts in the pipeline are Chase Claypool and James Washington. And then there’s Pittsburgh’s salary cap problem, with just $6.1 million in cap space. The Steelers may feel it’s wise to let someone else pay big money for Smith-Schuster, rather than crunch the numbers to retain the wideout.

With the NFL tampering period opening on March 15, it’s so fun to find clues on how free agency will play out.
