Juggling roles keeps actor Parambrata Chatterjee busy

Parambrata Chatterjee starred in Vidya Balan film Kahaani.

Actor Parambrata Chatterjee has his hands full with several directorial and acting projects in his kitty, the latest being Reunion - a film that tracks the changing political scenario of Bengal.

Chatterjee, who has recently received good reviews for donning the hats of director and lead actor in web series Feluda, will essay the role of a student union activist of the ’90s in the upcoming film.

The change in the socio-political situation of Bengal over the past two decades will be portrayed in the film in more ways than one, Chatterjee said.

“Bengal has seen a sea change in its political scenario in the past 20-25 years and this is bound to get reflected in any serious work of art. As a socially conscious person, you should know the past while living in the present,” he said.

The film is a tale of romance and human relationships with background references to the college campus incidents in the ’90s, the actor, who made his mark in Bollywood with Kahaani, said.

The ’90s era was marked by demonstrations and agitations on Kolkata college campuses as the CPI(M) student wing SFI and Congress students wing Chhatra Parishad engaged in turf battles.

“It is going to be a very intense portrayal as I essay the role of a man, who would be revisiting his student days during a college reunion,” he said.

To a question about juggling roles between a sleuth and a student activist, Parambrata said, “As an actor it is natural that I don different hats - be it a web series or a feature film,” he said.

Two episodes of the Feluda web series on addatimes portal - Ghurghutiar Ghatona and Sheyal Debota Rahasya - have already triggered great response among the viewers.

“Unlike previous works on Feluda, we have structured the narrative on first-person account on Topshe, Feluda’s young assistant. I am glad people are appreciating our efforts,” he said.

The 37-year-old actor, who believes that artistes should not limit themselves to one or two roles, said work pressure never bogs him down.

“A professional actor should be able to do several assignments at the same time. I love my job and have no qualms in switching roles,” he added.
