Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has reached a decision to indict Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges in Case 4000.
Channel 12 News reported that Netanyahu will be summoned to a hearing in the middle of February.
Reliable sources said that the attorney general is said to back the recommendations to indict made by the head of the State Prosecution’s Tax and Finance Department Liat Ben Ari.
Netanyahu's legal defense team said that "there is no room for leaks sabotaging the meeting and damage our right for an impartial hearing."
The defense team is set to meet with Mandelblit next week after the latter rejected the team's request to refrain from reaching a decision about the Netanyahu investigations ahead of the April elections.
The fact that Israel is holding early elections “is none of my business… It’s not something that affects me,” Mandelblit said in a statement.
In what is dubbed 'Case 4000', police suspect that Netanyahu influenced regulatory decisions in favor of telecommunications behemoth Bezeq in exchange for positive coverage in major shareholder Elovitch's media outlet Walla.
In addition to Case 4000, there are 1000 and 2000. The first one pertains to Netanyahu's alleged receipt of expensive gifts from members of the business community — the total value of which is estimated at $300,000.
In Case 2000, Netanyahu is alleged to have attempted to conclude a deal with the publisher Yedioth Ahronoth to cover the government's activities in a favorable way.
