Judi Dench, Alex Ferguson and other celebrities enter horses for Grand National

Actress Dame Judi Dench, legendary football manager Sir Alex Ferguson and rugby ace Jonathan Davies have all entered horses in this year’s Grand National.

Dame Judi, 85, has high hopes for her horse As De Mee, who was entered in 2018, but after a setback missed the race.

Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex, 78, has owned several racehorses, but Give Me A Copper, which he part owns, could be his first National winner.

It might be up against Potters Corner, which won the Welsh Grand National in December and is owned by Wales and British Lions rugby star Jonathan, 31.

Of 105 horses put forward for the steeplechase at Aintree in April, just 40 will actually race.

Tiger Roll is bidding to become the first horse to win three years in a row.

He would also become only the second horse to win three times, matching the great Red Rum.

Amid growing excitement for the Grand National, William Hill customers have hit out at the bookmaker after a mix-up led to free bets being offered in error.

The firm emailed its database with a message entitled 'A Free Bet just for you', stating £10 and £5 would be credited to all accounts due to a 'mistake' they had made.

However, a follow-up message told punters to ignore the goodwill gesture.

More than 300 comments were posted on the @WillHillHelp page on Twitter, as several disgruntled people threatened to boycott the firm.

One customer Kris Heerasing said: "People were getting excited at the prospect of getting free bets (some were even getting ready to have their ante-posts for Cheltenham), but they were brought back to earth when they received another email saying an error had been made.
