May 22--A 23-year old Chicago man fatally stabbed a longtime friend more than a dozen times after a argument in the Park Manor neighborhood, prosecutors said Saturday.
Shaqeil Kimber appeared for a hearing Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Court Building before Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr., who denied bail.
Kimber is charged with murder in the death of 24-year-old Prince Wilson.
Thursday night between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., Kimber left a home in the 6900 block of South Prairie Avenue with two male friends -- Wilson and a 21-year-old -- to go buy drugs, prosecutors said.
Kimber drove the 21-year old's work vehicle, a U-Haul truck, prosecutors said.
Kimber had been living with the two men on that block for four or five days and the three had been friends for ten years, prosecutors said.
After smoking the drugs, Kimber started driving to Lafayette, Indiana, upsetting his two friends because they had to work in the morning, prosecutors said.
The 21-year old was also upset because he'd get charged mileage for the truck by his boss, prosecutors said.
At about 4:30 a.m., the three arrived back at the home on Prairie in Chicago, where the two men told Kimber to leave and he took off in the U-Haul truck, prosecutors said.
But the 21-year-old called and told him to bring the truck back so when Kimber returned at about 5:15 a.m., he began arguing with the 21-year-old and followed him into the kitchen, prosecutors said.
Kimber then grabbed a knife from the sink and stabbed the man in the arm, causing him the fall to the ground and yell at Kimber. After getting up he saw Kimber and Wilson in the hallway outside of the apartment door with the door open, prosecutors said.
Kimber was stabbing the man "numerous times," prosecutors said.
The 21-year old got up and locked the apartment door, leaving Kimber and Wilson in the hallway, prosecutors said.
The 21-year old looked through the door's peephole and saw Kimber continuing to stab Wilson as they were moving toward the exit door of the building so he ran out the apartment's back door and called 911, prosecutors said.
He walked to the front of the building where saw Wilson in the doorway of the building. Kimber fled in the U-Haul truck, prosecutors said.
A witness saw Kimber punching and kicking Wilson as he was lying on the ground, and called police, prosecutors said. He also saw a shiny object in the man's hands, prosecutors said.
Surveillance video captured Kimber with a knife in his hand, prosecutors said.
Wilson suffered 14 stab wounds and he was pronounced dead on the scene.
An autopsy determined Wilson died of multiple sharp force injuries and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
The 21-year-old was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police previously said.
Later that day, Kimber was arrested for a traffic violation while driving the U-Haul. He had a cut on his hand, blood on his clothes and blood on his hands, prosecutors said.
"You pose a threat to everyone," Judge Bourgeois told Kimber during Saturday's hearing.
