Judge temporarily blocks Wisconsin Republican lame-duck laws

A circuit judge in Wisconsin issued an injunction on Thursday to temporarily block the lame-duck laws that the GOP-controlled state legislature passed in December to limit the powers of incoming Democrats Gov. Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul, per the AP.

Between the lines: Democrats have been calling the lame-duck laws — which would impact Evers’ ability to implement campaign promises — a “power grab.” Some of the measures in the law could have repercussions beyond Evers’ term, too, such as one measure that limits early voting, which often draws voters who lean Democratic.
