WASHINGTON _ Paul Manafort's second trial will be held in Washington, D.C., despite a defense request to move it to Roanoke, Va.
Lawyers for Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, had argued last week that news coverage of their client would negatively affect jury selection in the District of Columbia, which is heavily Democratic. U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson rejected that argument on Wednesday.
Manafort was convicted of eight counts of bank and tax fraud after a three-week trial in Alexandria, Va., that concluded last month.
Jury selection in the Washington trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 17. Manafort is accused of money laundering, failing to register for work he did in Ukraine and obstruction of justice.
