Judge orders Clinton to answer written questions in email case

WASHINGTON _ Hillary Clinton will have 30 days to answer written questions about her use of a private email server submitted by the conservative government watchdog Judicial Watch, a U.S. judge ruled, denying the group's bid to question her in person.

Judicial Watch must submit its questions by Oct. 14, though waiting that long means Clinton can delay her response until after the Nov. 8 presidential election.

The group has been using a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit to press for information about aide Huma Abedin's overlapping employment at the U.S. State Department, the Clinton Foundation and an outside consulting firm while the Democratic presidential nominee was the top U.S. diplomat.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington ordered Clinton to answer written questions on Friday over the objection of long-time Clinton lawyer David Kendall. The judge heard arguments over the issue in July.
