New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker, who is facing four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, has been granted permission to return to East Rutherford for work.
Judge Mariya Weekes officially approved a motion filed by Baker’s legal team on Wednesday, granting the cornerback permission to leave the state of Florida in order to take part in any upcoming Giants workouts or camps.
However, Baker’s ability to travel comes with some restrictions. NJ Advance Media broke down those conditions:
1. He must provide a pretrial officer with a detailed itinerary of the activities he will be participating in while out of state.
2. He must provide the pretrial officer with the address he will reside in while out of state.
3. He must provide the pretrial officer with the dates that he’ll be traveling out of state and his return.
Currently, Giants facilities remain closed despite permission to reopen being granted by New Jersey governor Phil Murphy, but that is poised to change next week.
Although they are unlikely to hold any practices or workouts in the immediate future, the Giants have announced that they will slowly begin to reopen their facilities in accordance with current NFL guidelines.
The Giants have also requested that Baker stay away from team meetings as his legal situation unfolds, so it’s unclear if they would be willing to let him return to East Rutherford with the case still pending.
Baker has been accused of robbing guests at a Florida party earlier this month, making off with thousands in cash and watches. The cornerback was released on $200,000 bond and has since pleaded “not guilty.”
