Judge dismisses Walt Disney's lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis campaigns in South Carolina

A federal judge has dismissed Walt Disney's lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and members of a state board. The company had accused them of retaliating against Disney after the company criticized state limits on classroom discussion of sexuality. The defendants successfully argued that Disney couldn't sue them over constitutionally enacted state laws.

In other news, Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, a member of the so-called squad of progressive Democrats in Congress, is facing criticism for remarks that some perceive as prioritizing her native Somalia over the United States. This comes just a day after it was revealed that fellow squad member Cori Bush is being investigated for alleged misuse of campaign funds.

Governor Ron DeSantis recently called for Ilhan Omar to be expelled from Congress, denaturalized, and deported. In response, squad members expressed outrage at the governor's remarks. Omar's comments to a Somali group, in which a translation allegedly suggested that she considers herself firstly Somali and secondly Muslim, further fueled the controversy. Omar blamed a bad translation and accused the observers of being propagandists.

Progressives are coming to Omar's defense and criticizing Governor DeSantis for what they perceive as racism. They argue that Omar's identification with her Somali roots and Muslim religion does not make her any less patriotic towards the United States.

In a separate development, fellow squad member Cori Bush is currently under investigation by the Justice Department for suspected misuse of campaign funds. Financial documents indicate that Bush made numerous payments for security services, totaling nearly $724,000, with at least $105,000 going to her husband. Bush maintains that she used campaign funds and not taxpayer money for these expenses.

As these situations unfold, it remains to be seen how they will affect the squad and their political standing. The controversies surrounding Omar and Bush have stirred a range of reactions from different quarters, with supporters defending their actions as well as detractors expressing concerns over their priorities and potential violations of campaign finance regulations.

Further updates and developments regarding these matters will be closely monitored.
