The Washington Football Team released former running back Derrius Guice last August after his arrest for felony strangulation, three counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property that allegedly occurred over a number of months in 2020 involving his then-girlfriend.
On Wednesday, a Loudoun County judge dismissed the misdemeanor domestic violence charges against Guice after he and the woman involved said they had reached a settlement, according to Justin Jouvenal of The Washington Post.
The settlement means Guice will not face a trial or have a criminal record.
Earlier this year, Loudoun County prosecutors dropped the felony charge against Guice. He was expected to go to trial this month to face the misdemeanor charges, but the settlement closes the case.
After the hearing, Guice’s attorney and the woman released a joint statement:
“They have both worked hard toward a resolution of their relationship and appreciate the input and consideration of the Commonwealth,” the statement read.

It’s unknown if the 24-year-old Guice will attempt to return to the NFL — if there is interest. There are still plenty of questions around Guice from his time at LSU.
Guice was the No. 59 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, and he spent two full seasons in Washington. He missed his rookie season with a knee injury. In 2019, he appeared in five games, rushing for 245 yards and two touchdowns.
