Jude Law’s ex hits back at Chappell Roan after security row left daughter ‘in tears’

Jude Law’s ex-partner Catherine Harding has hit back at Chappell Roan after the singer denied any involvement in a security incident that allegedly left Harding’s 11-year-old daughter in tears.

The row began when footballer Jorginho – Harding’s husband – claimed the child was confronted by an “aggressive” security guard while staying at the same hotel as Roan in São Paulo, Brazil, where the singer was performing at Lollapalooza.

Roan responded in a video on Instagram, insisting the individual involved was not part of her personal security and that she had not asked anyone to approach the family.

“I didn’t even see a woman and a child,” she said. “No one came up to me. I did not ask a security guard to go up to them.”

She added that she was “sorry” if they felt uncomfortable.

Chappell Roan tried to explain her side of the story in a video shared to Instagram (Instagram)

But Harding has now challenged that account, sharing further details of the incident and questioning whether the man’s behaviour reflected those working around the star.

“I don’t know if he was her personal security, but he was with her,” Harding said in a series of Instagram videos. “He looks after artists – that much I can say.”

She added: “When you are a celebrity, you have a responsibility for the people around you and how they act on your behalf.”

According to Harding, the incident took place at breakfast when her daughter Ada – who she shares with actor Jude Law – quietly walked past Roan’s table.

“She didn’t have her phone, she didn’t ask for anything. She just looked and smiled,” Harding said.

She described how a security guard then approached their table and began speaking in an “aggressive and intimidating” manner.

“He berated me for being a bad parent and said we shouldn’t harass people,” she said. “I tried to explain she’s a child and she was just excited.”

Harding said the confrontation left her daughter shaken and in tears, adding that the experience ultimately spoiled what had been intended as a birthday trip.

“We came all the way to São Paulo to see her show,” she said. “We didn’t go in the end.”

While Harding said she hopes Roan was unaware of what happened, she suggested the singer should reflect on how those around her behave.

“I hope she didn’t send him,” she said. “But if not, then maybe she learns not to allow people who work for her to treat others like this.”

Jorginho, a former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder, had earlier described the encounter as “completely disproportionate” in a post that quickly went viral.

Despite the controversy, Harding later thanked Lewis Capaldi for his “kindness” after he posed for a photo with her daughter following his performance at the festival.

Roan has previously spoken about setting boundaries with fans, saying she has experienced “non-consensual” interactions during her rise to fame.

The Standard has contacted a representative for Chappell Roan for comment.
