Jude Bellingham one of 'a number of players' Liverpool want as three midfield transfers eyed

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is reportedly one of three players Liverpool are keen on signing in the summer.

That’s according to Goal, who are reporting that Bellingham, Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes of Wolverhampton Wanderers are three of a number of players Liverpool are keen on heading into the summer transfer window.

The battle to sign Bellingham next summer is already set to be the most intriguing of the transfer window. As well as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with the England international.

Mount has been on the books of Chelsea ever since he was a child, rising through the ranks of the Cobham Academy to become a regular starter and winning the Champions League. Mount will have just one year left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge come the end of the season and Liverpool have been linked with the midfielder for a while now.

The ECHO reported back in January that Liverpool's interest in Nunes has been described as 'long standing' and the Reds did assess the merits of the 24-year-old last term during his final season in Portugal's Primeira Liga. Meanwhile, the club boasts a good relationship with the midfielder’s Gestifute agency, having worked with them during deals for the likes of Fabinho, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, with sporting director Julian Ward, in particular, also enjoying a closeness with key figures at the Jorge Mendes-founded company.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Crystal Palace on Friday, Reds boss Klopp has given the clearest indication yet that Liverpool's summer will involve a significant and costly rebuild.

"I always have the same say [in transfers]," Klopp said. "I cannot decide, at all, about money. Not about one penny. It is always the same.

“The old-school managers maybe had a budget and could work like this, it is not that way. Has the way we identify players changed? No. It is exactly the same.

"It's not helpful [if we don't get Champions League]. Money always has an impact. But this cannot be that much of an impact, let me say it like this. Of course it is influential but this is a summer where we have to be in the market, definitely.

"I am sorry that we cannot guarantee the Champions League at this moment but it's not done yet, we will fight for it, so we don't have to talk about it as though it is not possible. But it is tricky and difficult and if [we qualify], it will be a late decision, I guess.

"We have to start doing work earlier than before we know where we will end up position-wise and European competition-wise, so these things are clear here."
