Judd Apatow: Hollywood needs to 'stand up' for Bill Cosby accusers

Judd Apatow has spoken out over the way that Hollywood has treated the women accusing Bill Cosby of rape.

The writer/director, whose new comedy Trainwreck is set for release in the US this week, has been vocal about the allegations against the former sitcom star, on Twitter and in interviews, and now believes that the industry needs to do the same.

“I just kept noticing that no one else was saying that this was a bad thing,” he said in an interview with Today. “I would have loved to not talk about it. It’s incredibly sad. It’s one of the most tragic things that’s happened in our business, and I think we do have to stand up for the women and say that we believe you.”

Recently unearthed court documents showed that Cosby admitted to obtaining drugs to use on a woman.

“A lot of people got terribly hurt – and you know, when you go out on a date you don’t need seven prescriptions for quaaludes,” he said. “I’m in show business. Famous people can meet women without the enormous prescriptions.”

Despite the public allegations, Cosby hasn’t been charged and has even received support from celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg.

“We should all be very hesitant about getting involved in anything, but when it’s 40 people [making accusations], it certainly is time for everybody to wake up and say we should be concerned about the women,” Apatow said.
