Jubilee line delays: Chaos for commuters as faulty trains pulled from service

London commuters are facing travel chaos after a major Tube line that cuts through the capital was shut due to faulty trains.

Transport for London has been running a reduced service on the Jubilee line since Thursday night and has told passengers to expect severe delays all day.

It said a fault with some of the Jubilee line trains was discovered during regular safety inspections.

Those trains have been removed from service as a precaution and customers have been told to avoid using the sections of the line that are still open.

It said engineers were working "around the clock" to carry out inspections on trains used on the line, which links commuters and tourists to places such as Westminster, Canary Wharf, North Greenwich for the O2 Arena, and Stratford.

As of Friday morning, there was no service between Finchley Road and Waterloo stations.

Transport for London said in an email to customers: "Further to our update last night, we are running a reduced service on the Jubilee line today.

"We will continue to strengthen the service throughout the day as more trains become available.

"There are likely to be severe delays for the entire day and we advise customers to seek alternative routes where possible."

It had said earlier: "During our regular safety inspections we have uncovered a fault with some of our Jubilee line trains. As a precaution, we are removing these trains from service.

"Services on the Jubilee line are beginning to wind down this evening. By the end of the evening only a limited shuttle service between North Greenwich and Stratford will be in operation. Extra buses between North Greenwich and Stratford will also run.

"Our engineers are working around the clock to carry out inspections. However Jubilee line services will be significantly disrupted tomorrow morning and we advise you to seek alternative routes.

"The remainder of the Tube network is unaffected, although the reduction in service will result in other lines and stations being far busier than usual."

It comes a day after Exctinction Rebellion protesters caused severe delays on the Jubilee line and DLR in east London.
