Juan Mata sends thank you message to Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool boss joins Common Goal

Manchester United star Juan Mata has thanked Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for joining his Common Goal movement.

The Reds boss became the latest high-profile figure from the footballing world to pledge a percentage of his earnings to the charitable cause.

Klopp confirmed his involvement after being named FIFA Best Coach of the Year at the FIFA awards ceremony on Monday night.

Speaking on the stage in Milan, the German said: "The past was great, the present is really good and the future hopefully will be good for us as well.

"But there are people out there that are not exactly in the same situation.

"I am really proud and happy to announce that from today on I am member of the Common Goal family.

“Liverpool’s Champions League win was achieved on the back of exceptional team spirit among the staff and players and it is only by working together that we can accomplish truly meaningful things in football and in life.

“As a team, even with a minimum pledge of just 1%, together the football industry is capable of transforming the world. Now is the time for those interested to take a step forward.”

And Mata, who co-founded the charity which aims to tackle social issues using donations from the football community, has taken his personal blog to send his heartfelt thanks to the Liverpool boss.

He wrote: "I want to take the opportunity with this post to publicly thank Jurgen Klopp for joining Common Goal and the way in which he did it, in front of the whole footballing world.

"Obviously we are big rivals out on the pitch, but this movement doesn’t look at rivalries as off the pitch we are united by the same objective."
