Juan Mata sends Manchester United warning ahead of Barcelona Champions League tie

Juan Mata believes Manchester United will face an entirely different challenge when they face Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

United have a one-goal deficit to overturn from the first-leg after Luis Suarez's 13th minute header ricocheted in off Luke Shaw at Old Trafford.

The Reds improved after conceding, with Lionel Messi's influence waning after an innocuous collision with Chris Smalling left the Argentine with a bloodied nose and swollen eyelid.

United will look to replicate their heroics from the last-16 when Marcus Rashford's late penalty ensured Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side became the first team in the history of the European Cup to reverse a two-goal deficit away from home with their 3-1 victory against Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona's narrow margin of victory from the first leg has offered United reason to hope, but Mata believes the La Liga champions' performance level will be far greater on Tuesday night.

"At the Camp Nou Barca will be at their best," the midfielder told Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. "The first leg wasn't a classic for the supporters, they were on top until they went ahead but after that we found a foothold in the game.

"At times we were better than them but we didn't create too many opportunities.

"I expect Barca to be on their game at home, looking to dominate possession."

United finest hour in European competition came at the Camp Nou in 1999, when United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored the Reds' late winner to beat Bayern Muninch in the Champions League final and secure an unprecedented treble of trophies.

But Mata feels United are not in need of a miracle to progress to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2011.

"It's not impossible to come back from 1-0 down," he said. "And even less so if we take that night in Paris into account.

"I don't think we need a miracle but it's a difficult task.

"United are more than capable of scoring - if we don't, we're out."
