Juan Mata's verdict on Manchester United's season so far

Juan Mata believes Manchester United have deserved better from their opening four games of the season, but called for more consistency from his teammates.

The Spaniard made his first start of the season in United's 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday but was unable to inspire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side back to winning ways.

They have dropped points in three of their four Premier League fixtures and Mata believes all three games have been missed opportunities for United.

Speaking after the St Mary's stalemate, he reflected on the disappointing start to the season.

“We started the season really well against Chelsea at home, winning 4-0 (with a) great second half, I would say and after that, at Wolves we felt we dropped two points,” he told MUTV.

“We lost against Crystal Palace at home which we shouldn’t accept and it shouldn’t happen again, and today another two points dropped.

“We need to find this consistency and try to win and add three points after three points and that’s our main objective.

“I think we are deserving more in almost every game but deserving is not enough: you have to get it.”

United now have a two-week break until their next fixture as the Premier League breaks for international football. They host Leicester at Old Trafford in their next clash, which will be a must-win for Solskjaer and his players.
