Juan Mata's seven-word message to Man Utd fans after Huddersfield humiliation

Juan Mata's weekly Manchester United blog was decidedly more concise than usual on May Day.

The Spaniard was part of the Red Devils side that were held to a 1-1 draw by basement-dwelling Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It leaves United without a win in their last five and with only two victories in their last 11 outings since knocking Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League.

But rather than delve into the club's problems and try and serve up an explanation, Mata simply apologised to United's fans.

He wrote: "You deserve better. No more words needed."

The result in West Yorkshire means United cannot now qualify for the Champions League next term and are certain to be playing Europa League football.

Jose Mourinho led them to glory in Europe's second-tier competition in 2017 - and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists United's involvement will not be a bad thing.

"Sometimes you can use Europa League as something positive," he explained.

"As Chelsea and Arsenal have done this year and as we did a couple of years ago when we won the Europa League.

"So you talk about smiling, I'm an optimist by nature, so you will make the most of it, is it giving players like Chongy (Tahith Chong) Mason Greenwood, James Garner game time?

"We have to make something positive out of it, no matter what."
