Juan Mata issues fitness update ahead of Manchester United vs Watford

Juan Mata should be in contention to start for Manchester United when they return to action after the international break.

The Spaniard missed United's last three Premier League games with a hamstring injury which he sustained in the goalless draw against Liverpool last month.

He made his return in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves before the international break when he came on as a second half substitute and the 30-year-old has been working hard during the international break to get back to full fitness.

"In terms of training sessions, this week has been a very positive one for me," Mata wrote in his weekly blog. "I have made the most of the chance to get in top shape after making my return i the FA Cup not long ago. I am feeling good and I am looking forward to doing whatever I can to help the team as much as possible."

Mata's fitness boost will be welcome news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after five of his squad had to withdraw from international duty with injuries.

Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford were both sent home from England duty while Romelu Lukaku didn't play for Belgium due to a foot injury. Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial both withdrew from Serbia and France squads respectively.

Lingard and Martial were both spotted arriving back in Manchester on Monday after warm weather breaks in Dubai. The squad will be back in training this week ahead of the game against Watford on Saturday.
