Juan Mata has new nickname for Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial

Juan Mata has likened Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial to Cristiano Ronaldo after his goal at Norwich in the Premier League.

Martial has returned from injury to score twice in as many starts, his second coming at Carrow Road in United's 3-1 win. The Frenchman linked up brilliantly with Marcus Rashford before taking a backheeled assist to chip over Tim Krul from a tight angle and seal the three points.

He could have had more, but missed a first half penalty after a handball in the Norwich box.

But it was Martial's goal that caught the eye - as well as his general attacking play in his favoured central role - and drew praise from his teammates on social media.

Martial posted some match pictures from the Norwich win with the caption "Great performance" with Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot and Marcus Rashford all posting messages of support. Former defender Rio Ferdinand also replied: "Welcome back".

But it was Mata's response that was the most complimentary as he dubbed Martial the 'French Ronaldo'.

Ronaldo is a fans' favourite at United having made his name at Old Trafford before moving to Real Madrid and then Juventus.

Martial still has some way to go to emulate Ronaldo's success, but more goals of the ilk of his chip against Norwich and he will continue to live up to his new nickname.
