Juan Mata explains why it's hard to prepare to play for Man Utd at the moment

Juan Mata admits it's been hard to prepare himself to play for Manchester United recently because he doesn't feature every week.

The 32-year-old winger has made just seven appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils this season, with four of these coming in the Premier League.

He last featured for United in their 1-0 win over West Brom on November 21, and was an unused substitute against both Istanbul Basaksehir and Southampton.

Mata has been at Manchester United since 2014, but has fallen down the pecking order in recent seasons as a result of the emergence of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Discussing the difficulty of trying to stay mentally prepared when in and out of the team, Mata told L'Equipe: "I try to stay strong in my head, to train as best I can, to be physically and mentally ready every time someone calls me.

"Even if, of course, it's not always easy to be so when you don't play every game."

Manchester United take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday, needing a point to qualify from their group.

Ahead of the clash, for which Mata is in contention to play, the Spaniard added: "PSG are an excellent team, who recently played in the Champions League final.

"During our match at the Parc des Princes, we had performed well.

"But given the evolution of the group, I am sure that the Parisians will come to Old Trafford to win. We know how dangerous they can be."
