Juan Mata admits he misses former Man Utd teammate Ander Herrera

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has opened up on how he misses his old teammate Ander Herrera.

Herrera - who joined PSG on a free transfer last summer - was known to be close friends with his fellow Spaniard, and the two also lived close to each other while Herrera was in Manchester.

And speaking in a Q&A on United's official website Mata spoke about his regret that the former Zaragoza and Athletic Bilbao player moved on to pastures new.

When asked about if he missed his former colleague, Mata said: "Yeah, yeah I do. I do miss him on the pitch but also in the dressing room and outside.

"We were living in the same area. We were seeing each other after training for lunch, dinner, to watch football together, so of course I miss him.

"He's a very good friend; I'm still in touch with him very often. He's very happy in Paris."

Mata also compared Herrera to new United signing Bruno Fernandes, adding: "When you understand football in the same way, I think it's enjoyable to play with someone like him or with someone like Bruno [Fernandes] now. You always miss them when you don't play with people like this."

Meanwhile Mata has also had his say on United transfer target Jadon Sancho, who many are tipping for a big money switch to Old Trafford in the near future.

Sancho, 20, is being hotly-tipped to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer and return to England, where he came up through the ranks at Manchester City.

"We all know that he's a great player," Mata said. "He's having a fantastic season at Borussia, but you know it's not my responsibility to speak about those things.

"Of course, I like him as a player but I cannot reply to that."
