Juan Foyth's Tottenham future decided as Unai Emery and Villarreal make transfer decision

Juan Foyth is set to no longer be a Tottenham player.

The Argentine has spent this season on loan with La Liga club Villarreal, reinventing himself on the way to European glory with the Yellow Submarine.

Foyth initially played as a holding midfielder for Villarreal but after the arrival of another former Spurs man in Etienne Capoue, he was shifted to the right-back position despite having largely played as a centre-back for Spurs.

But he thrived there, proving to be one of Villarreal's signings for the season as he made the position his own ahead of Mario Gaspar and Ruben Peña.

The 23-year-old caught the attention of those back home as he put in an excellent performance to help Villarreal win their Europa League semi-final first leg against Arsenal, and he put in his best performance of the season as they beat Manchester United in the final.

Foyth managed more tackles than anyone else on the pitch in the Gdansk final as he kept Marcus Rashford quiet to help Villarreal win their first-ever major trophy, and he has now been rewarded with a permanent deal.

It has been reported tonight by Villarreal expert Javi Mata that the Yellow Submarine have already activated the £12.8million option to buy they held in the loan deal.

That will be seen as a bargain in Castellon after the impressive season Foyth has had and the versatility he offers as Unai Emery and his men prepare for next season when they will be in the Champions League after their Europa League victory.

The continuity is also likely to be something Foyth will relish after he and his partner welcomed a new child in recent months, though he will first spend the summer on international duty with Argentina.

He was involved in Argentina's recent World Cup qualifiers and he is likely to be included in the Copa America squad, which is due to be announced imminently.
