JSW Steel turns highest GST payer in Karnataka

BELAGAVI: JSW Steel Ltd, a multinational steel manufacturing company based in Mumbai, has turned the highest GST contributor in Karnataka for the financial year 2021-22. India’s second largest private sector steel company has paid Rs 3,974 crore GST.

According to Sunder Raju Sagi, assistant commissioner, office of the commissioner of central GST and central excise, Belagavi, the Karnataka zone has ranked second in the country by collecting GST of Rs 48,440 crore, next to Mumbai during the incumbent financial year. Within Karnataka, the Belagavi CGST Commissionerate collected the highest revenue of Rs 10,172 crore, which is 43% higher than the previous year. JSW Steel is the highest contributor in Belagavi Commissionerate.

The Belagavi Commissionerate has been extended over 11 districts in North Karnataka - Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Bidar, Kalaburagi and Ballari, comprising eight divisions and 38 ranges.

The highest GST collection is the result of various steps taken by the Belagavi Commissionerate to facilitate taxpayer compliance like - extensive interaction with the members of trade bodies, listening to their problems, issuing directions and resolving them, and ensuring timely availability of working capital by quick sanction of eligible refunds, Sagi stated in release. tnn
