Jrue Holiday used to be a Lakers fan, but now wants to beat LA and Anthony Davis

A native of Chatsworth, Los Angeles, CA, Jrue Holiday grew up loving the Lakers. Considering they’ve won five titles during his lifetime, that’s hardly a surprise. However, now that his former New Orleans Pelicans teammate and good friend Anthony Davis plays for Lake Show, they’re the team he’s looking forward to facing—and beating—the most.
During an interview with William Guillory of The Athletic, Holiday said he can’t wait to take on Davis for the first time in over six years:
Holiday has been enjoying his last few months with Davis before they are forced to finally part ways leading up to the season. But he knows how much animosity there will be surrounding every matchup between the Pelicans and the Lakers next season, and he’s looking forward to it.
“Obviously I grew up a Lakers fan, so it’s cool to see (Davis) go there. But I still want to beat him — hands down,” Holiday said. “It’s going to be different seeing him on the other side because we know each other so well. But he knows when we play (the Lakers), it’s going to be a battle. I’m going to want that win just as badly as he does.”
Luckily, Holiday won’t have to wait too long to go head-to-head with Davis, as the Pelicans are set to take on the Lakers on November 27 at the Smoothie King Center, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Not only will it be Holiday’s first matchup with Davis in quite some time, but it will be Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart’s first time hosting their former team.
For those reasons and more, it’s going to be a game basketball fans are going want to mark on their calendars.
