Jrue Holiday on Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson: ‘It’s like they have a connection’

Jrue Holiday has been around the league, and with the Pelicans, for a long enough time to have seen many a talented player. Not only has he played with the likes Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins among others, but he’s also seen some of the greatest players and duos across the league as well.

But it’s unlikely he has seen a pair of players gel as quickly as Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson this year in New Orleans. In just a few dozen games, Ball and Williamson have developed a chemistry that one would expect from teammates who have spent multiple seasons together.

Holiday talked about the chemistry the two have in a recent piece for ESPN, marveling at their ability to connect on alley-oops specifically.

“They just have this connection. It’s kind of like a quarterback and receiver. It’s like, where he throws it, I’m not saying Zion can’t jump out the gym, but he places in the right place, Zo does. I love to see it.”

Ball and Williamson each have spoken about their chemistry and how quickly they have adapted to one another. On his podcast appearance on JJ Redick, Ball called Williamson a special athlete that he had never played with before. Williamson, meanwhile, talked about Ball’s high basketball IQ during a recent episode of Pelicans Playback.
