JP McManus pays record fee for Douvan’s brother Jonbon

JP McManus smashed the record for a point-to-pointer at public auction with the £570,000 purchase of Douvan’s full-brother Jonbon this week.

The four-year-old, a 15 length winner at Dromahane last Sunday, came under the hammer at the Goffs November P2P Sale on Thursday.

But no decision has been made as to who will train the big-money buy.

McManus' racing manager Frank Berry said: "I've been tied up most of the day so I don't know much about it other than he bought him.

"I haven't discussed anything with anyone (about where he might go) so at the moment I've no idea."

Douvan, who is still in training with Willie Mullins, hasn't run much in recent seasons due to injury, but has tasted victory in 15 of his 19 races - including eight Grade Ones.

Mullins doesn't believe he will end up training Jonbon, saying: "I wouldn't think we'll get Jonbon.

"I don't know who'll get him, although I would have thought Nicky (Henderson) could get him, being bought in England with VAT and everything - he would be very expensive to bring back here."
