Jozo Simunovic slapped with two-game Celtic ban after friendly red card

Jozo Simunovic will miss Celtic's first two Premiership games of the season after being hit with a two-game domestic ban.

The Hoops defender was sent off in Celtic's friendly draw with St Gallen earlier this month for a reckless high boot.

Referee Fedayi San included the incident in his match report to the Swiss FA who have filed a misconduct charge to the SFA.

Celtic were left sweating over Simunovic's fate and the 24-year-old will play no part in the games against St Johnstone and Motherwell to start the season.

It's a blow for Simunovic who has established himself as a key player under Neil Lennon since the Irishman returned to Parkhead.

But his fate was sealed after the Swiss FA delivered their verdict.

It read: "In accordance with JPP (Judicial Panel Protocol) Annex C, section 4, Part D paragraph 3, the misconduct reported shall be recorded and the resultant suspension applied.

"The outstanding suspension applied for this offence is two first team matches immediate (domestic football)."

Simunovic's impending suspension doesn't affect his availability for Champions League qualifiers and he will be available for the game against Nõmme Kalju on Wednesday night.
