Jozo Simunovic ends post Celtic nightmare as he makes first appearance in almost TWO YEARS

Jozo Simunovic played his first game since turning out for Celtic almost TWO YEARS ago.

The Croatian stopper hadn't featured in a single minute of action for a staggering 639 days since turning out for the Hoops in a Europa League defeat to FC Copenhagen at Parkhead in February 2020.

He was released by Celtic that summer, but a series of knee injuries meant he was unable to find a new club for over a season until he finally agreed to join Croatian outfit HNK Gorica in October.

It took him around a month to get back to fitness and he played the entire 90 minutes for his new club and made a winning debut in a 1-0 win against NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac.

That was his first game after over 21 months out and saw Gorica leap to fifth place in the Croatian top flight.

And manager Krunoslav Rendulic was thrilled at Simunovic's comeback.

He said: "I am so pleased for Jozo that he was able to finally return to a football pitch.

"Not only that, but he played the entire 90 minutes too which is a fantastic step for him. He looked like he had never been away.”

Simunovic made 130 appearances in total for Celtic over five years and won 11 trophies in Glasgow.
