Joyriders steal rugby club's lawnmower before crashing it through Almond Park in Livingston

A rugby club's ride-on lawnmower has been wrecked after it was stolen and driven through a park in West Lothian, crashing several times on the way.

Livingston Rugby Football Club's storage container was broken into on Sunday night, with the vandals taking the green John Deere machine.

Their grounds are at the eastern end of Almond Park. The vandals crashed the lawnmower several times before leaving it abandoned at the western end of the park.

The cutting blade has fallen off and been left lying in the park while the front wheels are badly damaged.

A post on the club's Facebook page said: "We're gutted to say that some point in the last 24 hours our container was broken into and our lawnmower stolen.

"It was jump started and joy ridden through Almond Park crashed multiple times and abandoned towards the dual carriageway."

Locals are furious at the damage, with one posting: "I hope the people responsible are caught and have the money to get a new one!

"A vital piece of equipment the club uses to keep our pitches in good condition."

Police Scotland have been contacted.
