Joyous Swansea City dressing room scenes cut short as Steve Cooper admits it's all a blur after Nottingham Forest crumble

Steve Cooper admits the final stages of Swansea City's dramatic 4-1 win over Reading were a blur as his side secured a play-off spot in sensational fashion.

A brace from substitute Wayne Routledge along with a stunner from Rhian Brewster and academy product Liam Cullen's first senior strike saw Cooper's men crush the 10-man Royals at the Madejski Stadium.

It meant Swans pipped Nottingham Forest to sixth place in the Championship on goal difference after Sabri Lamouchi's men were beaten 4-1 by Stoke City.

The Swans' technical staff were keeping a close eye on events at the City Ground as their own side delivered the goods in Berkshire.

And Cooper admits he was delighted with the goals his side scored as they clinched a top six place in an extraordinary manner.

"What an eventful night. In the end we've got the job done. I don't think anyone thought it would be in that way, but it was going to take something extraordinary for it to happen," he said.

"If you look at the four goals we scored, it's our way of playing. We didn't panic and lump balls in the box.

"It was a little bit of a blur late on, if I'm honest. I thought we managed the game really well.

"There was a bit of a fizz up on the pitch as soon as we knew that we'd won, but everyone is calm now, and we've re-focused. It's a pat on the back, but it's not a time for congratulations.

"When you've got people like Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge in your dressing room, it doesn't take long [to re-focus].

"Of course we've had our moment in the dressing room, and why shouldn't we?

"But at the same time, there's a quick realisation that we're back in training tomorrow and we've got another two games, possibly three, to prepare for."

Swansea's victory over Reading means they have claimed 17 of the 27 points on offer since the restart, seven of which came in their last three fixtures.

And Cooper admits the way his side have responded to what was a gut-wrenching 1-0 defeat to then bottom-of-the-table Luton in June has been the key to Swansea's astonishing achievement of reaching the play-offs.

"It's not just tonight. We've won a lot of games since we've come back from lockdown, and performances have been good. We obviously had one setback on the way," he added.

"After that setback against Luton, there was no hiding place, and they stood up and were counted.

"Momentum is good, but we've got to focus on ourselves, keep building on how we're doing things, and hopefully it'll stand us in good stead."

Swansea take on Brentford in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

They will host the Bees at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday before facing Thomas Frank's side again at Griffin Park on Wednesday, July 29.
